River cruise companies are restarting operations in Europe this month. CroisiEurope is among the first to return to the rivers, having resumed cruises on Portugal’s Douro on June 7 and starting back up in France on June 30. Uniworld will resume cruises in Italy tomorrow (Friday, June 18). In July, AmaWaterways, Avalon, Emerald and Scenic hit the rivers again. Crystal, Riviera and Tauck start sailing again in August.
This all comes as great news for river cruise lovers. Are you ready to river cruise in 2021? We were scheduled on Avalon’s August 25th Black Sea to Deggendorf. They cancelled last week since Germany isn’t open. We rescheduled for 4/30/22. We are doing a land tour in France in September instead. We are very disappointed since our last river cruise was in 2017.
My son and I were booked on an Avalon Waterways, Seine, Saone and Rhone River cruise this June, but it was cancelled. Now we are taking the same cruise in 2022. I am also going back-to-back on a Scenic Danube cruise plus Oberammergau Passion Play that I had previously booked for July, 2022.
I have recently added a Caledonian Canal barge cruise in August, 2022. Since I will have a few weeks until that last cruise, I have rented a gite in Northeast France, near Belgium, so that I won’t have to do a second round trip flight.
Information always welcome.
