I walked to the back of Avalon Visionary this morning to have my daily Latte Macchiato. A sensational and surreal scene awaited me, a gorgeous sunrise over the Moselle River. Knowing that the light could shift any moment, I grabbed my phone, instead of going back to my room, to shoot this untouched image. “Looks like a painting by Ruisdael,” one of my Facebook friends wrote. Incredible what awaits you around each bend of the river – a lot like life.

Writing my impressions up today George, but the short answer, Avalon Fresh was wonderful. I only ate Avalon Fresh, except for one night when we dined at the Panorama Bistro (also good). The dishes were creative, tasteful and healthy – or as healthy as you can expect on a cruise. They also had lots of seeds – chia, pumpkin, etc – and goji berries for one of the breakfast buffet stations, and waffles that were delicious and not over-the-top proportioned. I give them high marks for Avalon Fresh. Now, if only they’d stop pouring so much wine at dinner …
