Tour de Force? Scenic, one of the leading luxury river cruise companies, has partnered with Trek Travel, an active vacation company that specializes in luxury cycling vacations. Together, the two companies will offer seven-night Bike & River Cruise sailings on the Rhine and Danube. Operating May through September in 2017, nine departures are split between Scenic’s Gems of the Danube, which sails between Budapest and Nuremberg, and Rhine Highlights, which runs between Amsterdam and Basel. Scenic fares are fully-inclusive and start at $6,499 per person, double, for the Bike & River Cruise sailings.
Guests will straddle the saddles of Trek Domane 5.9 carbon road bikes on 15-mile to 60-mile explorations with daily route support and experienced bicycling guides – as well as all the luxuries and extensive inclusions already provided by Scenic.
Here are a few more details about the two itineraries:
Gems of the Danube: A seven-night luxury cruise aboard the Scenic Amber. Cycling highlights include winding through the timbered hamlets of Furth and Erlangen, sampling local beers from the area which boats the highest density of breweries in the world, cycling through the vineyards of the Wachau Region, discovering Vienna’s most loved cycling routes including the heavily forested range of hills known as the Vienna Woods, and exploring the Budapest’s Buda hills, taking in the rich architecture on the historical west side. Examples of non-cycling tours include a walking tour of Cesky Krumlov or Salzburg, a Budapest city tour or thermal baths and spa experience and a Scenic-exclusive concert in Palais Liechtenstein. Prices start at $6,499 per person, double with departures on May 10, 22, 31, June 26, July 26 and Aug 30.
Rhine Highlights: Cruise on the Scenic Jewel between Basel, Switzerland and Amsterdam. Visiting four countries, this trip stops at the major cities of Strasbourg, France, Koblenz and Cologne, Germany and Amsterdam. Highlights for bicyclists include cycling the Alsace wine route tasting Rieslings and Pinot Gris along the way, pedaling the beautiful Rhine Gorge with its castle and vineyard dotted landscape, discovering the bike trails of Cologne and a cheese tasting tour through Amsterdam’s countryside. Non-cycling tours include a Scenic-exclusive private tour and classical concert at the Baroque period Mannheim Palace, a “Sweet Tastes” tour of Heidelberg and a trip to the fairy tale town of Cochem – to name just a few. Priced from $6,599 per person, double, departures take place on June 12, Aug. 16 and Sept. 13.
The 5-star Scenic Space-Ships offer all-inclusive luxury experiences – from private butler service and unlimited complimentary beverages and spirits including mini-bar re-stocked daily, to full-size private balcony staterooms – all making use of Scenic’s unique Sun Lounge technology – where the walkout open-air balcony can convert to an all-weather lounge with a push of a button, expanding the living area of the stateroom. On-board river highlights and on-shore experiences are made exceptional by the included Scenic Tailormade handheld GPS guided tour system provided to every guest.
On board cuisine allows for up to six dining options, including the tradition of dégustation at Table La Rive, fine dining at Portobello’s and the more casual fare at the River Café. As with all Scenic river cruises, guests will never have to reach for the wallet or purse as everything is included (except a haircut or massage): tips and gratuities, expert local guides, all Scenic Freechoice activities that allow for a more personalized vacation, plus Scenic Enrich events which are exclusive to Scenic and its guests, transfers, all meals, etc.
