Transcript:
Our morning began with a tour, and that’s one of the things I appreciate about AmaWaterways. The tours are included, so you don’t have to think about, What’s this tour going to cost me? You just show up.
Today, we toured the city of Porto. We really enjoyed the tour. Porto was a fascinating city to see, with lots of interesting history and architecture. Our guide was personable and knowledgable, and we liked the structure of the tour. We did a lot of walking in combination with sightseeing on the bus.
We ended up at an old train station, which was absolutely beautiful with its tiled artwork. We even had time to have a local coffee, a pingo. an espresso cut with a small amount of warm milk.
After that, we did a port wine tasting. We learned that port wine is simply wine with brandy added, which makes it a fortified wine.
We came back to have lunch on the ship and then enjoyed a sail-away. That’s when you really get into the rhythm of the river, because it’s so relaxing to be up on the top deck watching the landscape of Portugal pass by.
Tonight we have something special planned, dinner at a monastery. I hear the food is wonderful as are the views.
What’s on tap for today?
Your Porto city tour will show you 16th-century arcaded buildings, Baroque churches and the magnificent iron bridge built by French engineer Gustave Eiffel. Later, you will take a drive through the elegant residential section along the Atlantic coast and explore the Old City.
