Avalon Waterways recently announced the Godmother of the line’s newest ship, the Avalon Expression, and it is an appropriate choice. The line has chosen Patricia Schultz, author of the international bestselling book 1,000 Places to See before You Die, to christen Avalon Expression in a ceremony that will take place on May 6, 2013 in Cochem, Germany.

Regarding her christening duties, Schultz says: “It is an honor, without doubt, but also a thrill and a delight to have this chance to christen the Avalon Expression. I know that countless adventurers will fill every departure, excited by the promise of exploring Europe’s history-lined rivers. Sailing through its most special corners on such a beautiful vessel is something that makes me exceptionally proud.”
Avalon Expression will be the latest evolution of the line’s highly successful “Suite Ships,” each of which features two full decks of thoughtfully appointed suites. Each of these features what the line calls a “Wall-to-Wall Panoramic Window.” When opened, this transforms the entire suite into a gigantic open-air balcony, allowing the scents and sounds of Europe’s most stunning waterways to be enjoyed from the comfort and privacy of your suite.
What’s more, Avalon have designed the suites onboard these “Suite Ships” so that the beds are arranged facing the windows instead of the forward or aft walls, allowing guests to relax and unwind while the sights of Europe pass close at hand.

As the author of 1,000 Places to See before You Die, we think Schultz may have to revise the book’s title upward by one number to add the Avalon Expression to the list.
