If you’ve cruised the waterways of Europe before, chances are you’ve sailed past one quaint looking village after another. It’s also an equally fair bet that you’ve probably wondered to yourself exactly what the name of that village is, or when the locks along your route were built, or what those ruins on the cliff above your riverboat are.
Fortunately, Scenic Tours has a remedy for that: The line is introducing an onboard audio commentary to all of their “Space Ships” for 2013.
This digital tour uses the GPS coordinates of your river cruise ship to play relevant commentary about the sights that are gliding slowly past you, ensuring you stay as informed as you’d like to be. It’s also a great option for those who’d prefer to not listen to any loudspeaker commentary, preferring instead to sit out on the sun deck and enjoy the soothing sounds of the river.
Tours will be provided in each stateroom; expect them to be a small, hand-held device like the current QuietVox audio system provided for tours ashore.
This comes on the heels of Scenic’s announcement that bookings for the line’s 2013 France and Russia river cruise programs are exceeding sales expectations. The line recently launched Scenic Tsar on the waterways of Russia; with an 80 percent reconstruction, it is technically classified as the first new ship to be “built” in that country in 25 years.
