Be it on the oceans or waterways of the world, one obstacle solo cruisers have always had to grapple with has been the dreaded “solo supplement,” a premium fare on top of the per-person stateroom rate. Now, Tauck has announced that it will waive the single supplement for cruisers booking Category 1 staterooms aboard its fleet of elegant river cruise ships for the 2013 Europe season.
“The fact that we’ve waived the Category 1 single supplement on over 100 Tauck river cruise sailings will be welcome news to solo travelers everywhere,” says Tauck CEO Dan Mahar.
“For solo travelers organizing their own trips to Europe, all the work of planning and executing the itinerary falls entirely on their own shoulders, but with a Tauck river cruise, everything is taken care of for them,” Mahar adds. “And of course, there’s a camaraderie and connection with their fellow travelers, plus a great sense of security, that solo travelers don’t get to enjoy on their own. Finally, because our riverboats hold just 118 guests, they offer a refined, club-like atmosphere that’s very intimate and welcoming for anyone traveling on their own.”
For those solo travellers looking for a little more room, Tauck is also offering $1,000 off the single supplement for Category 3 staterooms on selected sailings of eight different European river cruise itineraries, representing a reduction of nearly 40 percent over the typical supplement.
So is it alright to sail solo on a river cruise? Absolutely. If you want to be social, your fellow passengers will notice that you are travelling without a friend or partner and strike up conversation, or perhaps invite you to join them for drinks or dinner.
Tours ashore are taken care of for you, and hotel stays and airport transfers are typically taken care of.
A river cruise is an adventurous, social experience, and one that is extraordinarily well-suited to the solo cruiser. With these new initiatives, it’s never been easier for solo travelers to set sail on a Tauck river cruise.
