It’s no secret that there are travel deals to be had out there and river cruising is no exception.
“With river cruising it’s like planes,” said Scott Nisbet, CEO of Globus, which owns Avalon Waterways. “You own the inventory. If the seat goes out empty, that’s not good.”
So, rather than have the seats, or in this case the cabins, go out empty, river cruise companies are putting out deals to inspire you, the potential river cruiser, to take a river cruise!
Some notable 2009 river cruise deals:
- Avalon Waterways is offering 50% off airfare with the purchase of a qualifying air-inclusive European river cruise. The deal applies to five itineraries, including the 14-day Windmills, Vineyards & Paris; the 14-day Blue Danube to the Black Sea; and the 24-day North Sea-Black Sea cruise.
- AMA Waterways offers specials through travel agents, including such deals as $500 off per person, free category upgrades and limited free airfare during certain times of the year.
- Viking River Cruises has 2-for-1 (two passengers for the price of one) promotions on eight of its European river itineraries, two Nile river cruises; one in Russia and one in China.
- Uniworld has numerous offers, including anywhere from between $600 and $2,000 off per couple, to 2-for-1 specials, to 50% off for children ages 8 to 18 on Uniworld’s family-friendly departures.
“In this environment, people are looking for deals,” said Wesley Bosnic, vice president, revenue management and strategic development at Uniworld. “That has helped us.”
