The History of AmaWaterways
AmaWaterways’ Austrian founder Rudi Schreiner was involved with several of the other major river cruise companies before launching his own line in 2002 along with cruise industry executive Kristin Karst and Brendan Worldwide Vacations owner, the late Jimmy Murphy. Formerly known as Amadeus Waterways, AmaWaterways has grown exponentially in the intervening years to become one of the major players in the European river cruise market.
The company now boasts a fleet of 16 modern river cruise ships operating in Europe: AmaCello (2008), AmaDante (2008), AmaLyra (2009), AmaDolce (2009), AmaBella ( 2010), AmaVerde (2011) and AmaCerto (2012).
In 2013, AmaWaterways launched the AmaVida to operate on the Douro, AmaPrima, followed by AmaReina and AmaSonata in 2014. The latter three vessels are derived from the successful AmaCerto blueprint. Be sure to check out 12 Things To Like About The New AmaPrima.
AmaWaterways boasts some of the newest ships of any river cruise company, and those ships are designed exclusively for the English-speaking market. The cruise line’s newest additions feature Twin Balcony staterooms, complimentary wine and beer served with lunch and dinner, multiple dining venues, a heated pool, massage and beauty salon, free in-room Internet and Infotainment system, complimentary Wi-Fi access and bicycles for guests to enjoy.
AmaWaterways operates a wide range of itineraries in Europe on the Rhine, Main, Danube, Mosel, Rhone and Saône rivers. The line also operates Christmas Market Cruises from late-November through December.
Exotic River Cruises
AmaWaterways also operates its own luxury cruise vessel in Vietnam & Cambodia, the AmaDara. In Africa, AmaWaterways operates the 28-guest Zambezi Queen, and in Myanmar the company operates the 56-guest AmaPura.
