AmaWaterways recently announced its first-ever itineraries sailing through the famed Bordeaux wine producing region of France, highlighting 22 Taste of Bordeaux sailings that will be operated aboard the 146-guest AmaDolce beginning in the spring of 2016.
“We are beyond delighted to introduce Bordeaux as a new destination for our guests to visit in 2016,” said Kristin Karst, executive vice president and co-owner of AmaWaterways. “Bordeaux is undeniably one of the richest destinations for culture seekers and wine lovers alike. We are so pleased to welcome travelers aboard AmaWaterways as they set out to experience the wonders of this incredible region.”
Of the 22 individual departure dates, eight voyages will be marketed as special In Celebration of Wine-themed voyages. These will feature more in-depth experiences both onboard and ashore, led by some of the world’s leading wine experts.
AmaWaterways’ Taste of Bordeaux sailings begin operation on March 23, 2016 and will continue on until the final departure on November 16. These itineraries can be booked as either a 7-night cruise departing roundtrip from Bordeaux, France; or as a more comprehensive 12-night cruisetour that includes a two-night pre-cruise stay in Paris, the weeklong voyage aboard the AmaDolce, two nights in the Loire Valley, and one additional night post-tour in Paris.
Regardless of which option they take, travelers will have the opportunity to visit Bordeaux’s famous chateaus and vineyards with stops at Cadillac’s Roquetaillaide Castle, a Medoc wine tasting in Pauillac, and an excursion to Chateau de Montaigne in Libourne.
Wine connoisseurs looking to enhance their experience even more will no doubt want to choose one of the eight wine-themed departure dates, which you can find here. Expert wine hosts and sommeliers will lead passengers in onboard lectures, interactive tastings and multi-course menus featuring gourmet meals perfectly paired with hand-selected vintages. Travelers will also have the opportunity to tour historic wine cellars, learn about winemaking and indulge in local epicurean traditions.
Sister to the AmaLyra and AmaDante, AmaDolce is one of AmaWaterways’ most comfortable ships. Built in 2009, she features accommodations that range from economical riverview staterooms to the ship’s three well-appointed 255-square-foot suites located on Violin Deck.
In addition to the usual forward-facing observation lounge and the ship’s welcoming restaurant, AmaDolce also features a massage and hair salon; the Chef’s Table Restaurant located all the way at the stern for a more intimate dining experience; a fitness room, and complimentary bicycles that guests can use to cycle their way through some of Europe’s most picturesque towns and countrysides.
AmaWaterways is also offering guests who book Taste of Bordeaux sailings between now and July 31, 2015 early booking discounts of up to $1,500 per stateroom.

My husband and I have booked for September 2016, AMA Dolce Bordeaux Cruise and land tour. This will be our first river cruise. Since this is the first Bordeaux cruise for AMA we were a bit hesitant, but think we have made the right choice after comparing companies. Can you please post a review of this cruise once it commences in the spring 2016? Just want to hear how it goes and what we may be able to anticipate. We have done some Caribeean cruises and learned they aren’t a good fit for me. I disliked the large cords and despite all the remedies struggled with seasickness. After discussions with friends and professionals I think river cruising will be a much better fit.
Looking forward to reading reviews on this cruise in particular.

I hope we are able to review it. However, AMAWATERWAYS won’t disappoint, I am sure, and neither will Bordeaux. If we are able to review the cruise and you are subscribed to our newsletter, you will be the first to know. Thanks for recommending it.
