In late July, AmaWaterways welcomed yet another brand-new river cruise ship into their fleet with the christening of the 164-guest AmaSonata in Vilshofen, Germany. It also marked the occasion of the line’s first Canadian godmother, Brenda Kyllo of the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA).
“We are honored to have celebrated yet another successful and very special christening this week, officially welcoming AmaSonata to our expanding family,” said Kristin Karst, AmaWaterways’ Executive Vice President and Co-Owner. “AmaWaterways is delighted to recognize Brenda Kyllo as Godmother to AmaSonata, as we so greatly value our relationship with CAA members and our Canadian travelers overall.”
AmaSonata actually entered service this past April, sailing from Amsterdam on a number of the line’s itineraries throughout Europe before being officially christened at the conclusion of her Melodies of the Danube voyage in late-July. Her future itineraries include The Legendary Danube, The Romantic Danube and The Melodies of the Danube, visiting Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and other locales.
AmaSonata is the second vessel to be christened for AmaWaterways this year in Europe, following on the heels of the launch of AmaReina in March. She’s based upon the design pioneered by the line for their highly-successful AmaCerto and includes spacious staterooms and suites, multiple dining venues, onboard massage and salon services, a heated swimming pool with swim-up bar, fitness room, complimentary bicycles and other upscale amenities and design elements.
In Vilshofen, AmaSonata’s christening ceremonies – a maritime tradition dating back thousands of years – included a traditional Bavarian lunch with music, followed by an afternoon of entertainment before AmaWaterways founders Rudi Schreiner and Kristin Karst arrived with Brenda Kyllo in a horse-drawn carriage. The ship’s guestbook was signed, and the traditional bottle of champagne broke against her hull. AmaWateways closed the ceremonies with a special fireworks celebration.
