American Cruise Lines is turning up the heat on the already-hot U.S.-based river cruise market, offering a new 14-day Grand Heartland Cruise along the Missippi for the price of a 10-day voyage. The line is also rolling out complimentary shore excursions for this voyage, a pre-cruise hotel stay for one night, and a complimentary cocktail hour each evening.
Sailing aboard the Queen of the Mississippi, guests will travel down the historic Mississippi River before concluding in Memphis, Tennessee. Along the way, the Queen of the Mississippi will visit 13 different ports of call that provide a look into what life on the Mississippi was like in days gone by.
“It’s been evident that our guests enjoy viewing more than one portion of the Mississippi River at a time, and often back-to-back,” said Timothy Beebe, Vice President, American Cruise Lines. “With this new offering, we provide a unique opportunity to do just that on the most beautiful portions of the River, while enjoying major savings and added value.”
Launched just last year, the Queen of the Mississippi carries 150 guests in seven separate stateroom categories, two of which have been designed specifically for solo travellers. Nearly all staterooms feature floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open up to private balconies, and all categories feature complimentary room service.
Onboard, high tea is served in the afternoon, and meals in the ship’s Grand Dining Room can seat all passengers at a single time. The ship also features a whimsical calliope, an exercise area and putting green, six separate lounges and, of course, authentic paddlewheel propulsion.
The Queen of the Mississippi should not be confused with the American Queen, though both sail the Mississippi and are arguably in direct competition with each other.
After decades of relative inactivity along the Mississippi, it’s nice to see competition – and passengers – returning to this storied waterway.
