Some exciting news from Australia: Scenic Tours founder Glen Moroney is in the process of launching a brand-new river cruise company called Riva Waterways.
The new river cruise line, which will operate in Europe, is scheduled to begin operations in April 2014 with the launch of two brand-new, 182-guest ships: Riva Royale and Riva Princess. The total cost for both ships is a combined total of €30 million, with construction at the Netherlands-based Shipyard De Hoop.
The ships are being built for a subsidiary of Scenic Tours called Evergreen Tours, which has been chartering river cruise vessels to fulfill its tour requirements. Because of this, it seems likely that the new Riva Waterways will be meant to operate alongside, not replace, Scenic Tours existing river cruise product.
This April, Scenic will take delivery of its seventh “Space Ship”, the Scenic Jewel.
We’ll have more information on the new Riva Royale and Riva Princess – along with Riva Waterways – as it becomes available.
